About Me

I am a Chicago-based communications professional with nearly 30 years of experience: 10 years reporting the news for the Daily Herald, the third-largest newspaper in Illinois; and 20 years providing communications counsel to leaders of corporations, associations and nonprofits.

My firm, Kathy Schaeffer and Associates, Inc. (www.ksapr.com), enjoys a reputation for integrity and creativity, serving clients who need publicity, media relations, written materials, internal communications, crisis communications, reputation management, and brand and identity support. Our niche is where the for-profit, nonprofit and government sectors meet.

I've lived in Chicagoland my entire life and cherish our distinct weather, politics, culture, lake, food, music, local personality, and the Chicago Bears.

In my spare time, I garden, cook, eat great food, work out (cardio and strength training), read and write. I also am active in my church, First United Methodist Church of Chicago, and serve in volunteer capacities at other nonprofits.
